Aug-29-2019 - Out with the old and in with the new

Here we are another year later with the lack of updates. Work has really kept me on my toes and it's hard to find time for this stuff anymore. The new site is still being thought of and I am gathering new ideas to make the site better than the current one. A lot has changed over the past 13 years and it is taking me time to play catch-up. We now have CSS3, HTML5, and responsive web design that needs to be factored into the new site. The problem is most definitely finding the time to learn this stuff. Yes, I had all year, and I will admit I procrastinated quite a bit. I don't want another year to go by without anything getting done, so my focus right now is the launch of the all new abysswshelp.com. Yep, I am retiring the domain trustabyss.com so that we can focus on newer content with the user in mind. That means more updated tutorials (possibly even video) and projects to help the user understand this software even further. My focus has always been to help promote Abyss Web Server because I believe it is the only reliable and easy to set up web server on the market, while still maintaining the free edition. Anyone who uses this software I think would like to see it grow, hence why this website exists.

In other news, the FileLimit/phpDownloadProxy project is being tossed. The project doesn't really make sense now that Abyss has download restriction capabilities already integrated such as Time Restriction and Disable Download Resuming, as well as the anti-leech/hotlink protection. The only unique feature that would have been implemented was the ability to serve files as though they were on your server such as from YouTube. Now that YouTube added more protection to their streaming, it makes it almost impossible to bypass that control and there are ethical issues as well. The main focus right now is the launch of the new site and then the continuation of the AWS:MRT (Abyss Web Server: Mod Rewrite Translator) version 2.0 project, which will have the ability to read mod rewrite instructions in real-time and implement with Abyss's abyss.conf file, making it easier to configure the URL Rewriting capability of the server for various scripts. Continue checking back and there will be new content to come. The new site will hopefully be ready by the end of this year and there will be updates as we get closer to the launch of the new website.

Respectfully,

Joshua H.

Jun-21-2018 - Update after almost 2 years

Hard to believe it's been almost 2 years since I last updated this site. Please do accept my apologies for such a long delay. This developer has been busy with work and other life issues. The new site is still in the works but I decided to do some more schooling on my programming skills before taking on such a big project. HTML5 and CSS3 are very new to me and I want to also dabble into some JQuery before working on the new site. Unfortunately, as always, a busy guy with work and it's hard to find the time for this stuff any more.

I plan on working on the new trustabyss.com website as well as some unfinished projects during the weekends. The good news is that I am back on a 3-day weekend so plenty of time to learn new things and finish those projects that have been in limbo for quite some time now. AWS:MRT project has been on hold and also phpDownloadProxy (formerly FileLimit). As time moves on, I hope to make better progress on these projects and further my web developer skills. Time is not on our side and we as humans need to use it wisely. Please understand that I am the only developer for this site and the additional projects so it will indeed take up a lot of time to complete. Family and work definitely comes first. To help me catch up to speed on the latest web technology, I will be subscribing to lynda.com. Stay tuned for more news as it becomes available!

Respectfully,

Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Aug-19-2016 - Bad news and good news

Hi, there!

So what's going on since my last news update? There is bad news and there is good news. The bad news is that the company that hired me as a programmer terminated my position April 2016. I worked for them for almost 10 months and they kicked me out the door! Truthfully, I did my job right where others were mostly careless. Anyway, the good news is that I am now working with my previous company as a Help Desk Representative documenting support calls. There is nothing more satisfying than helping customers solve their computer problems. The truth is that I am happier working with my previous company than when I was working at the other company! More good news is that starting on Labor Day I will have a new 4-day work week that will give me a 3-day weekend, which will allow more time to code. The other company only permitted a 2-day weekend which isn't a lot of time for coding. We need more days than just two to be honest.

Enough about my job status, let's get to the good stuff! Both domains for trustabyss.com and phpdownloadproxy.com have been renewed today for another year. Since I will have a 3-day weekend every work week, this will allow 3 days for me to work on these unfinished projects that I put off for so long. It is bothering me that these projects are still under development and should have been finished at least 2 years ago. Plans to continue their development have been put in place and hopefully an update will be made available in the coming months before the new year.

Respectfully,

Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Dec-08-2015 - Site has a new home

Hi, there!

As you may have heard from the last update, I have been very busy with things. I just wanted to put another update out there and let all of you know that TRUSTAbyss.com and PHPDownloadProxy.com are now hosted on the NameCheap.com servers. GoDaddy kept raising the prices of their domains year after year so I decided that enough was enough. Besides, there haven't been any donations to help out with the site anyway.

In other news, I am slowly working on this site and other projects but work definitely comes before play. I am currently working an 8am to 6pm work schedule Monday-Friday, so the only time I have to work on the site is after work or during the weekends. Both the AWS:MRT and PHPDownloadProxy script is in the works but in slow development.

The site may not get as many updates as promised but I plan to release something new for you soon. Web development is a very time consuming hobby, and although I like it, there is other things I must focus on. I plan on releasing an update to AWS:MRT within the next few months. Hopefully during the first quarer of 2016.

FYI: PHP 7 is now released. Go to php.net and get your copy today!

Respectfully,

Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Aug-22-2015 - Yet another news update—one year later!

Hello, fellow web viewers!

A lot has been happening since my last update. I finished College and now have a job working as a software developer for a local software company. The job is exciting and I am proud to have made it in the career of my choice, especially after my Networking career failed. I know I promised a new website in the next update but due to my busy schedule, this had to be put on hold. For those who have decided to continue checking my site and not losing hope that I will put another news update, I thank you.

You are probably thinking, "When is the new site coming?" The answer is difficult to explain since I need to figure out a good time schedule to work on it. Right now, work has kept me busy. I plan on starting on the new web site beginning next week. I want to start getting back into coding again, it has been a while and I think I am having anxiety attacks over not writing code! phpDownloadProxy and AWS:MRT have not been forgotten, not even the slighest bit. I will keep you informed on what's new in the next few weeks, not months or years!

Respectfully,

Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Jun-11-2014 - Another news update

Hello, fellow web viewers!

Please accept my apologies for the late updates. You're probably wondering, why hasn't Josh updated the site yet? The truth is that I am back in college working on my Computer Programming degree and haven't had the time to push updates to this site. Fortunately, I will be working on a new site design very soon. It takes time, especially with me being the only developer. I do admit though, my design skills aren't the best when it comes to web development. Truth be told, I am more on the programming side of things. Now that's not to say I can't design a good website, it just takes longer with my lack of graphics design skills. I plan to get a new design out as soon as possible, but for now, let's just deal with the current site design.

In other news, I am improving my programming skills using the Object Oriented design principles to finish my existing projects, which is AWS:MRT and phpDownloadProxy. Unfortunately, I do not know when these projects will be finished but expect to have them available in the very near future. More updates will follow in the coming months.

Respectfully,

Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Nov-13-2013 - A new website is in the works

Hi there!

As you all know, the website hasn't received any useful updates lately. Part of the reason is that the site is poorly coded. For example, the CSS which is used to add style to the page is inline. This means that the code is embedded in the HTML elements, making it difficult to keep track of the site's current design. If the CSS was located in a single CSS file, all the design aspects could be controlled from that file. Unfortunately, at the time when the site was being built, my experience using CSS was very limited. Another problem with the site is that the site is structured using tables and not CSS. This is bad practice in web design and makes the design harder to manage. In fact, that is the major reason why the updates do not happen very often. If the site was structured using only CSS, updates would be easier to manage. A new site is in the works because of these drawbacks and because the site needs a new design since it hasn't been updated in seven years. I cannot give you a release date due to time constraints; however, you should know that the next site will be developed using both HTML5 and CSS3 code.

In other news, both the AWS:MRT and phpDownloadProxy projects will be developed AFTER the new site is launched. The good news is that the main code has already been developed for both projects. However, the user interface is still in the works, and it is important that this site gets updated before development on these projects resume. The most important factor to consider for the development of these projects is time. The reason why my time is so limited is that I am currently in college (again) working on a computer programming degree. Currently, I'm taking four courses: Microsoft Windows 7 client; Java I Programming, HTML5 and CSS3, and IT Analysis/Project Management/Design. These courses are using up all of my time so this semester is hardly productive. Next semester, starting January 6, 2014 will be a lot easier because I will only be taking three courses. Those courses will be: Java II Programming, C# I Programming, and Financial Accounting. The current semester ends on December 12th. This will be the time period when I put all of my focus toward these projects. Keep checking back for more news in the future.

Respectfully,

Joshua L. Hesseman (TRUSTAbyss)

Jul-09-2013 - Update on future projects and more

Hi there, it's been a while since my last update as always. As you all may or may not know, Aprelium has released Abyss Web Server 2.9. This new version of Abyss introduces the long awaited Log Rotation feature as well as a new Restricted Downloads feature that allows you to create expired links, which is very useful for providing digital downloads if you're into the Ecommerce side of things. It is definitely worth checking out. Go to aprelium.com right now and download your copy today.

In other news, I started development on some unfinished projects such as phpDownloadProxy as well as a new backup script that I am working on that allows me to automatically synchronize my files to a remote backup server via HTTP protocol. It's very interesting and I look forward to debuting it on SourceForge.net in the near future. Unfortunately, time is not on my side with these projects and it's sad to see days and days go by without getting much done. I guess that's how a developer lives his life. Live and learn, right?

Last but not least, hang in there and I will have something for you as soon as I have it ready. It sucks to be saying all this exciting stuff about these projects and I have nothing available at the moment, but just know that I am working very hard on these and that I am the only developer so it will take some time. In the end, it will be worth the wait. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Feb-15-2013 - New things are on the way!

I apologize for the long hiatus. As you all know, I have been very busy for the past seven months so the site hasn't been updated as often as it used to be. You may have also noticed that the site has been down at times, and the reason is because I am moving to a new server within the next few days. Hopefully it won't be too long before the server is fully functional. On another note, the site will be going through some changes in the next few months. These changes will include updated content, design, and the development of new projects as well as the updates on the existing ones, such as AWS:MRT, Virtual Host Manager, and the new phpDownloadProxy. Keep checking back for the latest updates and I will have something for you soon.

Sep-08-2012 - Projects put on hold

First of all, forgive me for not updating the website in almost six months. In my last post I explained that my priority was to find a job in Information Technology. I am here to say that I got lucky and a staffing company hired me for a local position as a Helpdesk Technician. Unfortunately, this is not a permanent position and the contract is set to expire at the end of this month, so you can imagine how busy I am searching for my next job. The fact is that work comes before play. I will try to free more time to finish my unfinished projects in the near future but for now I am more focused on my career.

Second of all, this is not the end of trustabyss.com. I plan to finish my unfinished projects and improve my existing ones, including the remake of this website. Web Development and Computer Programming is and will always be my favorite hobby and I do not think I will ever stop developing these web projects.

Finally, I promise to keep you informed of new things to come. Good things are coming, you just have to wait. By the way, this website is running on Abyss Web Server again since I purchased a new dedicated server. The cost is not cheap, but here's how you can help: If every visitor donated $1 every month to my PayPal account, the server cost would be taken care of and I will have enough money to expand on these free projects by purchasing better equipment. Again, please accept my apology and make a donation. It's only a dollar!

Thank you.

Yours truly, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Apr-09-2012 - Abyss Web Server 2.8 beta 1 released

Aprelium has released the first beta for Abyss Web Server version 2.8. This new release adds support for IPv6, Reverse Proxy, and other great features. I encourage all of you to give it a try and report any bugs that you may find. Aprelium has given it their all for this one. To download, go to aprelium.com and visit their forums. You will find a link to download the latest beta there.

In other news, if you haven't noticed yet, this website is no longer hosted on Abyss Web Server. The reason is because I could not afford the server costs. Not one single donation made it to my PayPal account. Andy Whyman (from AbyssUnderground.co.uk) is currently hosting the website on his IIS server, and I greatly appreciate what he is doing. With that in mind, I will continue to support Abyss and use it only for development purposes until I can afford a new server.

Last but not least, I will be focusing some of my efforts on the development of phpDownloadProxy and a new updated version of AWS:MRT. My first priority is to get a job in the IT field. Stay tuned!

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Dec-13-2011 - Development and more...

If you guys are following the Aprelium topic for FileLimit, you probably already notice that FileLimit is now known as phpDownloadProxy. I changed the name because the name is a lot more meaningful and makes sense. The program acts as a proxy because PHP is actually serving the file to the web server and then to the client.

In other news, I had to postpone development due to some personal problems. My wisdom teeth need to be removed as soon as possible and they hurt pretty bad. For now, I am taking a break from the development of phpDownloadProxy until I can take care of this problem. I will keep you guys informed of any new updates.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Jul-19-2011 - FileLimit 1.x is in development
FileLimit is currently in development. I have been testing a lot of new features that I won't spoil, so you will just have to wait and find out what this thing has to offer. Check out the SourceForge.net page for the latest updates on this exciting new project. A new website will follow the release of FileLimit. Stay tuned!

Apr-18-2011 - Abyss Web Server 2.7 last preview available
The last preview release of Abyss Web Server 2.7 is available. Head over to aprelium.com forums and download your copy today! In other news, I am finishing up on my last College courses. It won't be long until I graduate (June 15th) and have more time to do the things that I have been longing for. Again, I apologize for the late updates. By the way, FileLimit is still in the works. Stay tuned!

Yours truly, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

May-17-2011 - Abyss Web Server 2.7 preview released
Abyss Web Server 2.7 preview is available. Head over to aprelium.com forums and download your copy today! In other news, I have been invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa national honor's society, so I'm pretty excited about that. Only two more quarters before I receive my Networking Specialist degree. Some amazing things are happening!

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Aug-08-2010 - Late Updates and Slow Development...
What's new for TRUSTAbyss.com? Nothing really because I'm still busy with College and Aprelium hasn't released Abyss Web Server version 2.7 yet. All of the Aprelium community is waiting patiently but it is taking a while for them to release it. I still haven't had much time to work on a new Web site or start on AWS:MRT version 1.1. Sometime in the near future (hopefully), I will have more news. Hang in there and I will have something for you soon.

Sincerely, Joshua H.

Apr-19-2010 - News and more news...
You guys are probably wondering... Where is Josh? The truth is that I've been hanging out mostly on Facebook and chatting about everyday life (College mostly). On another subject, the next release of Abyss Web Server is on the way. Here's a quote from an email dated April 18th: "...will focus on launching a new version of Abyss Web Server and resuming the hard work on version 3." I am very excited to read about this, and I look forward to testing the next beta. About the Dreamweaver extension it didn't work out very well. Sometimes I couldnt tell whether or not I was previewing my website locally or remotely, so I realized how confusing this extension could be. Because of this, I stopped working on the extension. I will be working on a new website this year, and finish some of my unfinished PHP projects. Take care. More news will be available to you very soon.

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Dec-29-2009 - Last update of 2009!
I apologize for the late update, as always I've been very busy with things. I will be releasing a Dreamweaver extension that allows you to choose between previewing your websites locally or remotely, using a simple graphical interface. I will keep you guys informed when it will be ready on the Adobe Exchange website. I hope to get back to my normal schedule soon, and be able to write more PHP applications. I want to wish all of you a safe and Happy New Year! More news later. Sincerely, Joshua H.

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Oct-31-2009 - Happy Halloween!
Just like I promised, a news update this month. Unfortunately my schedule is still pretty hectic, but I'm working on it. I get things done pretty quick, but I'm still very busy with college because of my Midterms next week. I apologize for delaying the news update until the end of October, but at least I did what I promised. I'm almost finished with my C++ book, but like I said, college keeps me busy. Look forward to more updates in the near future and new things to come. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Sep-23-2009 - More exciting news!
Good news! My summer college quarter is over, so I have plenty of time to do other things like finishing up on my C++ book. I'm going to start using a to-do list everyday so that I can force myself to get things done quicker, such as projects I haven't completed yet (you know, FileLimit). Expect to see many changes over the next few months because I'm finished procrastinating. It's time to get things done! More news WILL BE AVAILABLE next month.

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Jun-27-2009 - This is pretty amazing!
I AM CERTIFIED! I took both CompTIA A+ Exams (601, 602) yesterday and passed them with a perfect score of 900 points. I couldn't have made such a high score without the test material my instructor gave me. I am very proud of myself for achieving my A+ Essentials and IT Technician. Since I don't have any college at the moment, I decided to work on my C++ book so that I can understand object-oriented programming a little more before taking on FileLimit. You guys have to understand that FileLimit is a massive PHP application; I need to be prepared for what's to come. More news will be available next month.

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Jun-22-2009 - College is out!
I apologize for the late updates, my college schedule this past quarter was rough. Anyway, I'm sure a lot of you already noticed on the Aprelium forum that I became CompTIA Network+ certified May 1, 2009. I take my CompTIA A+ exams on Friday, so I will keep you posted on that. By the way, I plan to work on a few PHP projects while I'm out of college to keep myself busy over the break. The projects may be AWS:MRT version 1.1 or FileLimit, we will just have to see. I will also try and work on a new web site before the end of the year, since this one is getting to be pretty old. I head back to College July 7th. Again, I apologize for these very late updates. More news will be available soon...

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Mar-16-2009 - AWS:MRT 1.0 released...
I'm proud to announce the official release of AWS:MRT (Abyss Web Server: Mod Rewrite Translator) 1.0. This release includes a few fixer uppers and some slight modifications to the original code, such as the AJAX functionality. Go to the Scripts section and download your copy today! More news will be available later. Enjoy!

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Mar-06-2009 - AWS:MRT 1.0 Beta 4 released...
I'm proud to announce the release of the latest beta for AWS:MRT (Abyss Web Server: Mod Rewrite Translator). A few things have changed since the last beta (see the changes.txt file for details). I added some new features that you will appreciate, and I made some minor improvements to the code to fix future validation problems (for the XHTML code). This will probably be the last beta before the official release, which is scheduled for late March or early April. Visit the Scripts section and get your copy today! More news will be available later this month or early April.

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)

Feb-19-2009 - AWS:MRT 1.0 Beta 3 released...
Hey guys,

I apologize (yet again) for the late updates (college is keeping me busy). I'm proud to announce the release of AWS:MRT 1.0 Beta 3. You can find the new release of Abyss Web Server: Mod Rewrite Translator under the Scripts section. Enjoy!

NOTE: FileLimit is still being planned, but college is keeping me from development. I hope to find more time for this project in the future. More news updates will be available next month.

Sincerely, Josh (TRUSTAbyss)

Sep-14-2008 - A new project is born...
Hey guys, I apologize for the late updates. For the past month, I've been working on a new project known as AWS:MRT. So what does this stand for, you say? Let's just say it's the first Mod Rewrite Translator for Abyss Web Server. I worked hours and hours on this thing after doing my college assignments, and it's an honor to be able to release this thing to you guys. Check out the "Scripts" section to learn more about this translator. The script is free, but I would like a donation if you can. All donations go toward this server. Enjoy!

Sincerely, Josh (TRUSTAbyss)

May-15-2008 - Moving to a dedicated Server...
Wow! It's been a while since I gave you guys an update, and I really apologize for that. I'm finally in College and making straight A's. I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm moving in with my parents while attending college, so I can no longer run my own server (I'm going to buy a dedicated server instead). Andy is currently hosting me, and the new server will be provided by him within the next month or so. Also, the FileLimit project is still active. More news later...

Best regards, Josh (TRUSTAbyss)
Jan-11-2008 - Some major changes...
Today, I made some major changes to the website. The support page has become "Contact", and the projects page has become an "About" page. We no longer need the projects page because there really isn't any projects left. The VHC project is out dated, but I do plan to write a script to replace it in the future. The support page needed to be changed because all it provided was an email address. A few other minor changes have been made, such as date formats. More news will be available later. Note: A new site is being planned.
Dec-24-2007 - Season's Greetings...
Merry Christmas!

I know it's not Christmas yet from where I'm at but I thought it would be nice to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I plan to add some more stuff to the website after this year so be sure to look forward to that. As always, I'm a very busy person working on other projects so please be patient and I will have more stuff for you in the future.

Sincerely, Joshua H. (TRUSTAbyss)
Nov-16-2007 - I'm thinking of the number 24...
Hello Everyone,

It's my Birthday! Feel free to send E-Cards. The Powered-By-Abyss project is now owned by pKSML (Check out the Projects section for more details); with this new change, I will have more time to program. By the way, I'm still reading my "PHP and MySQL" book because lately I've been too tired to read it; I'm almost finished with Ch. 12, but there's 14 Chapters in the entire book.

More news will be available before Christmas.

Oct-12-2007 - Just a quick update...
Hello Everyone,

I apologize for the very late updates; I'm doing the best that I can to keep everything updated whenever possible. I have some sad news for the FileLimit project; I won't be able to start on it until next year due to a project I'm working on for a local church (Content Management System). Hopefully this new project will help me further my PHP and MySQL skills to where I'm creating much more advanced and stable PHP applications. More news will be available later.

Kind regards, Josh

Sep-01-2007 - Still reading my PHP and MySQL book...
Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I'm still reading my PHP book. Its been raining a lot here and it's hard to read when you have a bunch of thunder outside. Anyway, I hope to finish the book by the end of next week if the rain stops (I doubt it). More news later...

Kind regards, Josh
May-08-2007 - A very late update...
Hello Everyone,

You're probably wondering why I haven't updated the website in while. I've been doing alot of studying lately because I have a test later next month, on the 5th of June. Anyway, I apologize for the long wait. I plan to add more stuff to the site later next month.

Kind regards, Josh
Feb-10-2007 - A new project is born...
Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know about a new project I've been working on. I call it "AbyssWS Log Splitter". You can find out more information
about this new project at SourceForge.net. Stay tuned!

Note: FileLimit 3.0 news can be located here.

Jan-10-2007 - I'm back for another update...
Hello Everyone,

I apologize for not updating the website for 1 or 2 months. I've been studying lately. Anyway, Aprelium has just released Abyss Web Server 2.4. It features URL Rewriting, which means that you no longer need the URL Rewriting hack (I removed it). Stay tuned...

Note: There will be more updates in the coming days.

Get Abyss Web Server 2.4 now!

Nov-22-2006 - A few website updates...
Hello Everyone,

I've been busy all day, updating the website. The Downloads and Mods section have a better layout now. An example would be the Mods area. You can now preview the Directory Listing images before clicking on the link. The Downloads area has a description! Yeah!

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov-02-2006 - Another Directory Listing Mod...
Hello again! I have another Directory Listing Mod available thanks to Eric for all the effort and time he put into making it. I plan to add a few console Mods when I have some available.

Note: Click on the thumbnail on your left to get the new Directory Listing Mod. Please be patiant and I'll have more stuff soon. C ya!

Sincerely, Josh (TRUSTAbyss)
Oct-09-2006 - Two Mods and a Finished website...
I have two new Directory Listing Mods and the rest of the web pages added. I plan to add more stuff in the coming days. I will probably have the Scripts section finished later this week along with some more Mods. Hopefully the console ones.

Note: I'm on a busy schedule so I might not get things done on time. I barely got the last of the web pages finished. Please be patiant and I'll have more stuff for you soon. C ya!
Oct-04-2006 - A new website is born...
Well, your looking at the new TRUSTAbyss.com website. I spent alot of my time on it. I'm still not 100% done with everything, but I decided to release it anyway. I hope you like the new design.

Note: The thumbnail on your left is a direct link to the all new "Apache" Directory Listing mod. The rest of the website will be finished this week.

Sincerely, Josh (TRUSTAbyss)
